What the reader and the apps collect, and what they do not. Last updated 7 September 2026.
This covers the Mycelium Press audiobook reader at listen.mycelium-press.com and the Mycelium Press apps. Books we publish may have their own websites, run by their own communities and with their own policies; this is not those.

What we collect
- Your email address, so you have an account and can sign in on more than one device. There is no password: we send a link in a browser, or a six-digit code in the apps.
- What you own. A record that your account has a particular audiobook, and the payment provider’s reference for the purchase. We never see your card number — payment happens on Stripe’s own checkout, not here.
- Where you are in a book — which section and how far in — so it opens where you left it.
- Listening statistics, recorded against a code rather than against you. Which section was played, how many seconds were actually heard, and the hour and date of your own day. Your email address is not stored with them: each reader is an opaque code, and the key that could connect a code to a person is kept apart from the data, the way research data is separated from patient records. We use this to see which parts of a book hold people and which get skipped, and when people listen — never to build a picture of a named reader.
- Your IP address, briefly and only in memory, to limit how often sign-in emails can be requested. It is not written to our database.
What stays on your device
Sections you download for offline listening are stored on your device and are never sent to us. So are your reading settings — the typeface, the size, the page colour. Deleting the app, or clearing the site’s data, removes them.
What we do not do
- No advertising, no advertising cookies, and no third-party analytics.
- We do not sell, rent or share your personal data.
- We do not track you across other websites.
Who processes data for us
- Cloudflare — serves the site and stores the audiobook files.
- Stripe — takes payment. They see your card details; we do not.
- Google Workspace — sends the sign-in email.
- Hostinger — runs the server that holds the account database.
Cookies
One cookie, and only after you sign in: it keeps you signed in for 180 days. It is HttpOnly, so no script can read it. The apps hold a sign-in token instead of a cookie. There are no other cookies.
Your choices
- Delete your account, from the apps or by writing to us. That removes your address, your purchases record, your position in every book and your listening statistics. The coded rows go with it: the code can be worked out again from your address at the moment you ask, which is exactly what makes them erasable.
- Sign out on any device at any time.
- Ask what we hold about you, and we will tell you.
Children
These books are written for adults, and accounts are not intended for children under 13.
Changes
If this changes in a way that affects you, the date at the top changes with it, and anything genuinely new gets said before it starts rather than after.
